Student Police Cadet

A Kerala Police programme that trains students in discipline, civic responsibility and service to the community.

Student Police Cadet

About the programme

The Student Police Cadet (SPC) project was started by the Kerala Police in 2010, together with the Departments of Education, Home, Transport, Forest, Excise and Local Self Government.

It is a two-year programme for students of Classes VIII and IX, who train as junior and then senior cadets. The aim is not to prepare students for a police career, but to raise young people who respect the law, care about their community and are ready to lead and to serve.

Cadets are trained by Community Police Officers, who are teachers of the school trained for the role, and by Drill Instructors from the local police station. Training takes place before or after school hours and during the holidays, so it does not disturb regular classes.
